Based on a novella by George R.R. Martin, Nightflyers is a sci-fi thriller starring a ragtag team of scientists onboard a mysterious spaceship called the Nightflyer. In the year 2093 the crew explore many environments from space sunsets to solar storms to holo spheres. The 10 episodes feature enhanced environments filmed at Troy Studios in Limerick via video playback on LED walls.

BRIEF
Green screen was unsuitable for shots featuring the cast inside the Nightflyer, because the spaceship’s reflective surfaces were prone to green spill and posed a challenge for post-production. The VFX department required footage to be sequenced, mapped, and composited on-set to look and feel believable in-camera.
WORKFLOW
Sensel Studio assisted High Res Lighting to help deliver multiple enhanced environments. Playing two 6K plates on two LED walls, outputting 60 frames per second, in real-time.
Sensel Studio engineered a workflow enabling content to be re-composed without re-rendering, by generating a system of tracks and layers to be luma keyed and chroma shifted in disguise.
SUMMARY
Over the twelve week shoot period Sensel Studio executed the render pipeline: directing content teams, managing content systems, programming in-camera looks, operating on-set shoots, configuring media servers, and training local technicians.
